Using the grow kit is simple. You will receive a comprehensive guide when you purchase the grow kit. Below is a brief step-by-step plan.
1. Remove the Fresh Mushrooms box from the cardboard box, but do not throw away the cardboard box yet! Remove the lid from the plastic container. Rinse the lid under running water and save it - you will need it for the next round of growing (you can use the kit several times - flights.
2. Lay the plastic grow bag down on a flat surface and slide the grow kit into it. Fold the bag under the grow kit, making sure the small holes are just above the box of the grow kit and pointing upward. Then place the bag (with grow box) inside the original cardboard box to block light from the sides.
3. Place in a room with plenty of daylight with a temperature of 18°C-28°C. DO NOT place in direct sunlight. Although mushrooms grow within this temperature range, a constant temperature of 20-23°C is the ideal temperature you should try to maintain for optimum yield. A heating mat can help with this if your space is slightly cooler. Mushrooms do not need direct sunlight to grow. Indirect daylight is sufficient.
4. Once the first heads have appeared, you can change the grow bag and set it upright. There is no need to moisten the kit. The first mushrooms should become visible after 1-3 weeks.
5. When the first mushrooms are readily visible, the bag should be left open slightly to allow excess moisture to evaporate. Too much moisture can be harmful to the mushrooms.
6. About a week after the first heads are visible, you can harvest. Do this by gently pulling (with clean hands!) the mushroom loose with a light twisting motion. Be sure to harvest before the mushrooms drop their spores.
Next harvests:
This grow kit can produce multiple mushroom harvests. To do this, after the first harvest, fill the kit with clean tap water. Known as cold-shock, this process breathes new life into the mycelium and restores enough moisture for the mushrooms to start growing.
Place the lid of the grow kit back on the kit. Let the kit rest for 12 hours. Open a corner of the lid and drain excess water. From here you can follow the instructions of step 1 again. This process can be repeated several times.
